Is it a possum or an opossum? What’s the difference?

If you live in North America, and you happen to see one of these running around:

That, my friends, would be an opossum. The possum, however, is a small tree-dwelling marsupial native to Australia, New Guinea and Sulawesi, and the look more like this:

While they both hail from different parts of the world, both possums and opossums are marsupials (meaning they’re not so different after all). For the purpose of the video above, we’re going to focus solely on the opossum.
