Arnold Schwarzenegger charged by African elephant

‘I couldn’t have written this safari encounter better if it was a movie.’

These are the words of actor, bodybuilder and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, who came across a massive African elephant while on safari in South Africa. Schwarzenegger posted the encounter on his YouTube page, and expressed admiration for these mighty beasts. He also took the opportunity to share his sentiments over the senseless killing and poaching of these animals: ‘We need to stop killing them – take a photo, not a shot. Would you rather be able to experience these creatures or a hunk of ivory? I thought so.’

Schwarzenegger is no stranger to supporting animal rights. Last year, he took to social media to oppose the hunting of big cats in the wake of Cecil the Lion’s death. During his time as Governor, he made big changes for animal welfare by signing bill A.B. 1437, which sees that all eggs sold in the state of California come from hens that live in cage-free conditions.

As an environmentalist, he’s also expressed immediate concern over climate change, and has taken a number of steps to fight carbon emissions and global warming, including founding the nonprofit environmental group The R20 – Regions of Climate Action.

Good work, Terminator!
